Staff

The department staff are:
  • Mrs A K Davies - CTL Creative

  • Mrs A Lewis

  • The Art department consists of two Art rooms located next to the canteen & adjacent to a computer suite. Both rooms contain a variety of equipment including computers; scanners, printers, digital camera's, and specialist equipment for use at GCSE.

    We offer a broad & balanced Art curriculum covering all aspects of the subject including : three dimensional design, ceramics, textiles, graphics, printing, painting and drawing.

    We encourage all our pupils to be independent learners and to work in experimental ways to produce art work. Every unit of work consists of artistic research, observation study, experiments & design development, culminating with an end product that reflects the influence of the area of study for that unit. We enable our pupils to respond positively to a variety of stimuli to make art works of beauty and function that are admired by others for their craftsmanship and skill.

    Coursework content

    Qualification

    Controlled Test = 40%
    Coursework = 60%

    1 practical examination of 10 hours duration.

    The course encourages pupils to be independent learners while producing artwork of quality and skill. The unendorsed Art course endeavours to provide a wide variety of materials to be used by pupils to gain skills and to create artefacts in 2 and 3 dimensions. A range of art disciplines are used throughout the course including painting, drawing, ceramics, sculpture, textiles, graphics and mixed media. The endorsed Art textiles course also utilises many materials but the outcomes of all units of coursework are made in fabrics and threads.

    All candidates must keep a sketchbook throughout the course. It is a way of developing each unit of work and shows experiments with materials, techniques, ways of developing ideas and how best to organise and present this information. It is used in school and at home and is a constant companion for all visual images that pupils find, draw or investigate.

    Three units of work are completed over the duration of the course. Each unit contains; artist research, observation drawing, design and material development, analysis and investigation and end product.
