Oakdale's Technology Department has experienced many successes. Our links with Industry have played a prominent role in promoting the department within the school and the local community. This has raised its status as a relevant option amongst our pupils.
Through Technology, all students can become critical and informed users of products, and become designers and innovators.
Students will learn to think and do something creative to improve the quality of life for everyone.
Technology is about students becoming self-motivated, creative, problem solvers and allows them to work both as individuals and as members of a team.
Students will look for needs, wants and opportunities and respond to them by developing a range of design ideas and by making and evaluating products and systems.
In Technology students will combine practical skills with an understanding of aesthetics, social issues, environmental issues, function, and industrial practices.
Students will consider the use and effects of present and past Technology.
The DT and ICT department is staffed by dedicated well qualified teachers and is led by an energetic and proactive Head of Department.
The staff have regular meetings to discuss future developments to ensure that we always offer the very best education to our pupils.
We are always open to suggestions from our pupils and parents and each member of staff are willing to give as much time as possible to our pupils.
We are proud of the achievements made by our pupils many of whom go on to sixth form or college.
Design and Technology prepares students to participate in todays and tomorrow's rapidly changing technological world.

Graphics
The Design Technology Department at Oakdale Comprehensive School has been transported into the 21st century with its new Graphics facilities. At an investment cost of £34,000 the department can now offer our pupils a vast range of opportunities in both Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4.
The layout of the room has been designed to be multi functional to allow both design and CAD/CAM work to be used in harmony.
The new equipment consists of 25 new high specification flat screen computers, 1 CNC (3D milling, routing & engraving cutting) machines, an A3 colour printer and a black and white laser printer.
Within the near future we will also be able to provide digital cameras and A4 laminating machines.
Catering & BTec
We have a very successful food technology department which has strong links within the catering industry. Visits are often arranged to see the large scale production methods employed by companies such as Braces Bakeries.
In 2006 our pupils were runners up in the Rotary Club Young Chefs competition and in 2007 they were invited to the Welsh Assembly to
participate in the Welsh Youth Food Assembly.
In 2009 we have updated and increased the facilities available to our pupils and we now offer Btec Hospitality and Catering, Children's Care, Learning and Development courses.
