The Importance of ICT
ICT prepares pupils to participate in todays and tomorrow's rapidly changing technological world.
ICT is about pupils becoming self-motivated, creative, problem solvers and allows them to work both as individuals and as members of a team.
Pupils will have a comprehensive understanding on the use of ICT in todays world and will be well prepared for 6th form, college or the work place.
Key Stage 3
Year 7
Pupils will follow a course of practical work through out the year and cover:-
Communicating Information using:
• Microsoft Word (letters)
• Microsoft Publisher (posters)
• Microsoft PowerPoint (presentations)
Data Modelling using:
• Microsoft Excel (basic spreadsheets with simple formula)
Data Handling using:
• Microsoft Access (basic database with simple queries)
In years 7/8/9 pupils start working through the ICT National Curriculum Levels and aim to progress up to level 8 by the end of year 9.
Year 8
Pupils will follow a course of practical work through out the year and cover:-
Communicating Information using:
• Microsoft Word (letters)
• Microsoft Publisher (posters, business cards and brochures)
• Microsoft PowerPoint (presentations)
Data Modelling using:
• Microsoft Excel (advanced spreadsheets with complex formulas)
Data Handling using:
• Microsoft Access (advanced database with complex queries)
Year 9
Pupils will follow a course of practical work through out the year and cover:-

At the end of year 9 pupils will have reached upto Level 8 of the National Curriculum and will have obtained Key Skills ICT Level 2
Key Stage 4
Year 10
Pupils will begin their portfolio of practical ICT work. This will take the whole of the year and will also include one lesson every two weeks of theory. The last two weeks of the year will be spent on starting their year 11 project.
Year 11
Two terms are spent completing the major project up to Easter. The remaining time is spent on revision for the written final papers.
An A* - G GCSE grade can be gained in this subject. The portfolio and project are worth 30% each of the total marks. Pupils then sit two written examinations which are worth 20% each.
