Welcome to the new BTEC Media department.
BTEC Media is a vocational course introduced at Oakdale Comprehensive School in September 2008.
BTEC Media is offered as an option to pupils at Key Stage Four. As a vocational course, it is designed to give pupils the opportunity to explore the world of the media through a work based focus. The course is 100% coursework assessed, which requires pupils to work consistently well throughout the year. A Pass at BTEC is worth the equivalent of two GCSE grades at C level.
Three units if work are covered during the BTEC course: Research for Media Production, Advertising and Video Production. The Media Department boasts a brand new, state of the art Media room created specifically for this course. Equipment within the Media room includes four new iMacs, two MacBook Pros, six digital cameras and a colour printer. In addition to this impressive list of hardware, the department also uses a semi professional editing package ?Final Cut Express? that is recognised in the media industry as a genuinely superb digital editing programme.
Media pupils are also actively involved in recording and editing aspects of school life. Recently, pupils have filmed Oakdale's Prom Fayre and Sports Festival.
The Media department is an exciting and innovative area of Oakdale Comprehensive School, with staff determined to give pupils a wide and varied experience of media in its range of forms.
