If you are interested in a future career working with babies and/or young children, this could be the course for you. The course has been designed to provide the knowledge, understanding and skills necessary to prepare learners for employment and/or career development within the field of Child Care, Learning and Development.
Course information
„ Students must complete 3 units of work by completing projects and assignments that are based on realistic workplace situations, activities and demands.
„ All units are internally verified and assessed by set deadlines
„ No examination
„ Work experience for units 1 and 3. One full week experience placement in year 10 and/or 11
„ Students can achieve a Pass, Merit, Distinction or Distinction
„ Successful completion of the course is equivalent to 2 A* - C grades
„ Gives students the opportunity to continue their study to degree or other higher- education programmes in the same vocational sector or in a related sector.
Course Content: - Unit 1 - Understanding Childrenˇ¦s Development
In this unit you will learn to:-
„ Understand the growth and development of children
„ Understand the role of observation of childrenˇ¦s development in the workplace
„ Know how to observe childrenˇ¦s development
„ Understand the importance of planning in supporting childrenˇ¦s needs and development.
Unit 2 - Keeping Children Safe
In this unit you will learn to:-
„ Understand how to prepare and maintain a safe and secure environment for children
„ Know how to support the protection of children from abuse
„ Understand how to maintain the safety of children on outings
„ Know how to deal with accidents, illness and emergencies.
Unit 3 - Communication with Children and Adults
In this unit you will learn to:-
„ Understand the key features of effective interpersonal communication
„ Understand how to interact and communicate with children
„ Understand how to interact and communicate with adults.
