The Spanish Department members of staff:
Mrs J Morgan

We are excited to announce the introduction of Spanish to Oakdale Comprehensive School.
Pupils will be given the opportunity to study this new language in Years 10 and 11.
Pupils will be taught in two longer sessions over a two week period.
You may be interested to know that the learning of a second language can be made easier by having already studied French.
Holidays to Spain are popular and the Spanish appreciate you having a go at their own language and enjoy helping you along. You will also feel more confident in understanding menus, instructions, road signs etc.
In the GCSE exam pupils will be entered for papers in listening, speaking, reading and writing.
Writing is completed in the form of two pieces of coursework and is worth 30% of the GCSE exam.
Speaking is also in two parts and is also worth 30%.
Both reading and listening papers are worth 20% each. Questions are in English. For these two skill areas, pupils can be entered for either foundation or higher papers.
Topics covered by GCSE are:-
1. Personal and social life - including self, family, friends, home life, shopping, healthy living, illness, accidents, free time, fashion, relationships, future plans
2. Local community - including home town, school, local environment, pollution, recycling, comparisons with other areas, weather, seasons
3. The world of work - including work experience, careers, technology
4. The wider world - including travel, holidays, social issues, media, life in the countries and communities where Spanish is spoken.
